2.2017 Faizabad Sit-in: Although not directly at D-Chowk the Faizabad sit-in (which took place at a nearby location) also caused major unrest in the capital.
The sit-in led by religious groups was violently cleared by security forces and the protests extended to D-Chowk and surrounding areas.
3. Security and Political Clashes: Over the years D-Chowk has been a site of political demonstrations some of which have escalated into violent clashes between protesters and security forces.
It is often at the center of significant political and social events in Islamabad.
